You might be wondering why I am writing a book review on a book about mastering the inner game of wealth on a spiritually based website and not too long ago I would have been right there with you.  After reading Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker I was so impressed with the perspectives he shared and how it helped me, that I just needed to share.

A Good Friend’s Recommendation

A very good friend of mine, Hari, that I often have spiritual discussions with recommended that I read this book after a good many of our conversations led him to.  You see I was struggling with understanding money and even more so the accumulation of it along with my spiritual journey.  As time and these conversations went along, he felt that I would really benefit from checking this out.

For a long time now I have looked at money with a negative perspective, not desiring to have it aside from having enough to keep a roof over our heads, pay the bills and put food on the table.  Heck I didn’t even want to win the lottery and often thought of how nice it would be to just live off of the land.

What I didn’t realize is that I was sabotaging not only just myself, but my family’s as well.  I would soon find out with each turn of the page in this book, how I was setting us up for same failures over and over again.  Alas though, not all is lost as I am about to share with you, but first…

A Little Backstory

my-financial-struggles-and-debt
I was struggling with my finances my whole life and carried a burden of debt.

When it came to money in my life I was on a vicious cycle of having an excess of it to losing it all and just scraping by.  This happened from when I was very young with my parents all the way through where I currently am now.  I didn’t even realize that I was on this hamster wheel of rich to poor to rich and back to poor again.

Subconsciously this is what was driving me to the desire to live off the land or to wish for a Star Trek like era to come upon us and take away the need for money.  I started to hate money even though I avoid that term with everything and anyone else, I could not shake the negativity from it.  I just wanted to be comfortable in life, to get by and be happy, but I was never going to at this rate and I would soon find out why.

Hooked from the Start.

As soon as I started to read this book I was hooked, although I admit I was also just biding my time until I could say, “Aha!  I found the catch!”  Each time I thought that I had found it and was ready to make my exclamation, the very next paragraph would erase it all.  What I found is that Harv had the very same approach to money that I have with my spirituality.

negative-perception-of-money
My blueprint of money was a rather negative one.

In the beginning of the book he dispels the many myths about money and how it is often referred to as to root of all evil.  He is able to put it in a light that once you see, you can’t unsee it.  He also shows how we often receive our “financial blueprint” as a child growing up and how that influences our lives from there on out.

As he continues with setting the stage for part two of the book I was moved by the grace at which he did so.  There were many times that he hit the nail on the head for me personally and once again my eyes were opened.  There were several times that I even thought you could just replace the financial talk in the book with spiritual talk and you would not miss a beat.

Part One Was Great, Part Two Was Amazing

By the end of the first part of the book I was truly amazed.  Almost all of my doubts were already gone and the few I had remaining would not stay long as part two ensued.  Harv spells out his 17 Wealth Files in the second half demonstrating the differences between Rich Thinking and Poor Thinking.

As I read through each of the files I was just amazed at how simple this all seemed and like it was too good to be true, but in reality I knew that it was.  Every word that I read built on the previous ones in a down to Earth and easy to understand way.  Along with file there was a declaration to be spoken and actions to take, all guiding you to rewriting your blueprint into a more successful one.

financial-blueprint
The more I read this book the more I understood how my financial blueprint was holding me back in life.  I needed to make changes and fast!

Again looking at this from a spiritual perspective I was finally able to come to peace with my friction with money and accruing it.  I now understand how it is okay to build wealth as it will only help me to spread my value to more and more people.  Long dispelled was the myth that once I had money I would become greedy and evil.

Once I Was Finished…

taking-notes-on-this-book
Something new for me, taking notes and diving into really studying book.

I wanted to start reading the book all over again.  Yup, you read that right.  I wanted to turn back to page one and just allow the content to wash over me one more time.  While that really sounded appealing, I was actually more interested in diving in further and studying each concept in a little more depth.

All of my life I have never been a note taker when it comes to studying, it just wasn’t how I learned.  But with recently coming to understand the power of writing things down, I felt the urge to poor through the book again writing down all of the Wealth Files and making some notes on each.  Going through all of the declarations and again writing them down (though you can print them out from his site too).

I am still in the studying process at the time of this writing, but I have already started practicing the teachings and seen immediate results.  I can’t wait to revisit this post someday with even better results that I know will build as time goes on.  I am willing to make that commitment for you and I promise that I will continue to share not only my results, but the continued perspectives that I will see along the way.

My Recommendation

thumbs-up
I would more than recommend this book, I would call it a requirement.

I am sure that you have already guessed by now that I would highly recommend this book, but you are wrong.  I would actually suggest that this book should be on your mandatory reading list it is that good.  While this book would obviously be a huge benefit to anyone struggling with money or how money and spiritualism go together, I honestly think that everyone would be able to reap rewards from it.

I myself personally have already investigated some of the Online Courses available from Harv and will be adding them to the schedule sooner rather than later.  I am committed to my spiritual journey and the synchronicities that have happened since I started with this book have only cemented my belief that this was the right course of action for me to take.

To add this book to your library and help support this site, please feel free to purchase Secrets of the Millionaire Mind here at Amazon.  I got my copy there at a very affordable price and even ended up getting a signed copy of the book.

Special Thanks

I would like to extend my special thanks to Hari of zerotoinfinitude.com not only for recommending this book to me, but also for his continued support and knowledge for my journey.  Many of the concepts that I have discussed with you on this site have also been discussed with him prior to being published.

I would also like to say thank you not only to T. Harv Eker, but also to all of those who have created and maintain a wealthy lifestyle.  I now know that you are just like me and if you can do it, so can I.  I am truly humbled and am sorry for the negativity that I once cast on money and those that had an abundance of it.

  1. Hey James:

The hardest thing for someone on a spiritual path is getting on friendly terms with money. For some reason that area of life is always fraught with assorted pitfalls that are particularly difficult for someone who likes to think they are reaching for Spirit. I’m still working on it my own self.

Thanks for sharing your story about working through Eker’s book from the perspective of a Seeker. It makes for interesting reading….

    • Today’s society and so forth don’t help much. So many seeds are planted that money is equal to a bad thing, that you don’t have to wonder why so many of us have issues with it. Harv cleared things up for me very well, so much so that I am already reading the book for a second time and have implemented many of the things he teaches in it. I am already seeing a difference in my life.

  2. Wow! What an enthralling review! I currently live paycheck to paycheck or direct deposit to direct deposit more accurately. Is thinking rich like the power of positive thinking? Can you give me an example of a pearl of wisdom that you gained from the book? It is definitely next on my book list!

    • Tessa, one pearl of wisdom that really hit home for me was when he talked about being a good receiver. Many of us are quick to either offer something back or whatever when we are given something and that actually deters from the gift that you got.

For example let’s say someone compliments you on the shirt you are wearing. Accept the compliment and be thankful for it. Do no feel the need to tell them that they have a nice shirt too. You don’t have to cheapen their gift to you by giving them an unwarranted compliment.

Overall though, the biggest thing that stood out for me was the high standards of ethics that go throughout the whole of the book.

I hope you enjoy the book and stop back to let us know what you think.

  3. I have referred a lot of programs and books to people before, but I have never ever felt so happy after suggesting a book name to someone like it did when I shared Harv’s work with you because you really acted on the suggestion and made it work, moreover this knowledge is emanating from you and reaching others, that is really amazing.
My story as you know, was a lot similar, I have always felt a little hatred towards money because somehow I thought it to be a hindrance on my spiritual path. Due to this I struggled with finances and was never able to focus on my spiritual growth.
Harv made me realize that if we are like trees trying to grow and help others with our fruits, we also need to focus on growing the roots so that we could extract the necessary minerals.
You really have found a lot of things about your subconscious mind, that’s the specialty of this book isn’t it? It shows us our inner reality.
Wow, you have really following his advises, I can see stuff on your notes that reminds me of mine (that’s the menu restaurant advise he gives right there). I am sure anyone making a similar use of this book can change his financial situation.
And I also want to thank you for bringing all these powerful knowledge back into my awareness, I am going to read the book again this week and we both have always helped each other in many ways in past few years, so thank you for being my friend James, I wish you a great success with all the new changes you are making in your life recently.

    • Hari I am glad that you stopped by for a read of this article. Again, I would like to extend my deepest of gratitude to you for not just this recommendation, but for all of the advice and conversation that we have had over the last three years.

This book has not only helped me to get around roadblocks that I knew where there for me financially, it has also helped me to identify others that I was not even aware of. I still to this day carry the book with me when I go out as it is just that great to reference back to. It has certainly helped me to realize my inner reality in a much better light. My blueprint about money is changing and I am excited as I know not only will my financial issues be resolves, but I will be able to share the wealth with so many more as time goes on. I am looking forward to being able to share my values with the world more freely.

  4. Hey James =)

It wasn’t until recently that I flushed my negative perspective towards money down the toilet.

I was listening to an audio book called “The Science Of Getting Rich” by Wallace D Wattles and he was explaining that there is nothing evil or bad in the desire to have riches – it is just so we can experience an abundant life.

This made sense because it was helping me having this useless belief about money. It is definitely to do with our conditioning.

There is just no point in having any negative beliefs, especially towards money because it will ruin our lives.

I will also be checking out the book as it does sound really appealing.

    Thanks =)

    • Lawrence, I am glad to hear that you have already begun to cleanse yourself of those old beliefs. I certainly understand how you felt as I was the same way.

I have not heard of that audio book, but I will definitely be doing some more exploration down this avenue as I go. I will keep it on my radar!

It does sound like there are some similarities between the two, but that is a good thing right? We want to see a convergence on how to handle money in a proper way that is good for our soul and not allow it to taint us with our negative perceptions of it. Let me know what you think of it!

  5. A very interesting book, definitely worth checking.
I would also recommend reading: Make a Million by Brian Tracy. You can find it for free as an audiobook on Youtube.
And of course the famous “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. Like the book the you review he stated that firstly we should have an abundance in our minds, then it will be manifested in the material world.
    Thanks for this book review

    • I have heard of those other ones and I am sure at some point here I will get an opportunity to check them out as well. Having an abundance in our minds will certainly help it to flow outward and into our lives and those around us.

  6. Great review.
I’m a little bit like you and have had to challenge my own negative views of money and as I do so I’m finding that other family members have some limiting beliefs too. it is so deeply ingrained..and that old chestnut “money is the root of all evil” must have really damaged a lot of people’s potential right?
Anyway, this is another book I need to read. Thank you!

    • The fact that you are already becoming aware that your blueprint has been tainted by your past is a good first step. As soon as I started reading this book, it was like doing a connect the dots and everything came into focus for me. I now have a much more stable foundation to work off of and feel 10 times better than I did before the book. It is almost as if a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders.

  7. James, I have not read this book but I am undergoing a course by Harv Eker. It’s called Spiritual Law Of Money. I did wrote about it in my blog.
If anyone is genuine, he is. There are no promises of overnight success and he holds you responsible on accomplishing goals in his program.

And as you said, he brings up many myths on money which I found was programmed in my subconscious system. I love it when he said money has nothing to do with happiness. It is neither good nor evil. It is just a tool such as a hammer to a carpenter.

    • Yes money is certainly that, just a tool. Like anything else it can be used for good or evil and should be more about the operator than the tool.

I have already taken a look into what courses he had available online and will certainly be checking them out here as I continue on my spiritual journey. As you said though, he is very genuine and I was able to pick up on that within the first chapter of the book.
